Edna P. McCurdy Scholarship

The Edna P. McCurdy Scholarship Foundation was formed by Ounalashka Corporation to provide scholarships for post-secondary education to its shareholders and their descendants. Scholarships are offered to full-time students only at this time.

Parents help your children be successful in their applications for post-secondary education and scholarships. Download MS Word guidelines, tips, sample documents and templates for creating a useful portfolio for your child, as presented by Vonnie Gaither of the Anchorage School District and Shareholder Barbara Svarny-Carlson at the Aleut Corporation’s Annual Village Seminar.

Edna P. McCurdy Scholarship Foundation:
On May 14, 2015, I graduated from Front Range Community College in Westminster, Colorado with an A.A.S. degree in Paralegal Studies. Your help over the past two years, along with support from The Aleut Foundation, allowed me to pursue this goal and I am grateful.
Your support helped drive me to study and work hard for every grade. Through my effort, I felt, I could express my gratitude for the opportunity you were providing. My final cumulative GPA was 4.0 and, according to the commencement program, I graduated summa cum laude. You made that possible.
While I was out of work, you also helped my daughter Lauren earn her bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado. Lauren was hired as a teacher in December and is finishing up the school year with her kindergarten class. Lauren’s class has shown considerable improvement in test scores since she took over and both the parents and students seem to adore her. That, too, is a direct result of your efforts.
I’m hoping my degree will lead to a job that will help members of my community. Thank you for the work you are doing. I believe you are making a difference in more lives than you realize.

Nikita Graduation Picture

I have successfully obtained my Bachelor of Science degree in Environment and Society at the University of Alaska Anchorage. I wouldn’t have been able to achieve this milestone without the generous support of the Edna P. McCurdy scholarship throughout my college career. Thank you for the support as well as the fun times I had landscaping for the corporation. Please let everyone know I say hello and I hope to visit again soon!
Thank you and hope you have a wonderful summer!

Lauren Hatch

To everyone at the Edna P. McCurdy Scholarship Foundation,
My sincerest thanks for what you do to make it possible for me and other shareholders and decedents to pursue our educational dreams.  Because of your financial support, I recently graduated with my Masters degree in English and received an award for Outstanding  Graduate in the English department.  I hope that in my career as an educator, I can give back to our community as well.  I intend to work closely with native populations as a teacher, mentor and hopefully a role model.  I feel so lucky to be a part of such an important and supportive organization.  Thank you so much!
Lauren Hatch
